so when i was in high school, i worked at this gas station on camp wisdom road in duncanville, texas.
there was a shopping center next door. it had a few stores in it but never really was full or busy. one of the stores way in the back was jim choates karate. whipow!
they used to come over and buy gas at mike’s texaco. which is where i worked. they were pretty normal guys. just all into the matial arts.
there were these two brothers who went there. troy and brian dorsey. they were my age or so. i used to talk to them whenever they stopped in. never really thought about it much.
so last night i was watching ‘karate’ on espn2. and it was pretty much like boxing except they threw in some kicks here and there.
most of the fitghts were pretty quick knockouts. but no tthe last one. it was a nasty fight that went all nine rounds. i don’t even remember their names. but the guy who won, and kept putting the other guy on the canvas was already some kind of champion. american karate assoc, or north american karate union. some kind of champion. but then one of the announcers said that he had really proven himself, and that he was ready to move to the next level and fight for the world championship.
against troy dorsey.
i had seen him fighting on espn many years ago, but just assumed he was out of competition now.
wrong.
he’s like world champion in 5 organizations.
and there we were some 20 years ago, scoping out chicks at the texaco.
i suppose it had something to do with me eventually trying out tkd.
Kick his ass.
thanks for the nice words!
give me a call..

Yes, Its been awhile, I have not seen Troy in about 22 years. I talked too Rodney Dorcy about I guess ten years ago at a Radio Shack on Cooper St. in Arlington…Looks like he is doing really good. I just wonder where in the hell, Bryan Dorcy is at these days…
