Ouch

i am in so much pain.

this is the most pain i have felt from almost exactly three years of martial arts classes.

yeah, i can hear some of you very righteously chiding me for not falling correctly. and i deserve that. it’s the first time that i’ve actually been swept like this though.

we were doing a little ‘promise’ sparring. we promise spar when we aren’t wearing body armor. and we ‘promise’ not to kick each other.

this will be a little techinical for those of you who have never taken and martial arts.

i did a jumping double( also called a double up), and my partner ridiculed my for getting fancy. it two round house kicks. but you start the second before you ever put your first kick down. so you are in the air.

so i did it again, except this time i just kept going. maybe four kicks before it happened.

my right leg was out, straight. and my partner, nick decided to do a back side kick (or just back kick). when he did this, his hips rotated around my extended leg, so that my foot was now on the other side of his hips.

i was in the air.

when i tried to pull my foot back…. no can do.

i landed nearly flat on my back from around 3 feet in the air.

didn’t hurt my back. i’m glad my body remembered to do at least enough to keep from landing on my spine. i landed a little on my left side.

so i’ve got bruised ribs or something. it feels like someone just whacked me on my left side with a stick.

i’m not moving very fast right now.

best quote? while nick was apologizing. (not his fault, i should have fallen correctly) i remarked, “hell, if you don’t get fucked up every now and again, you just aren’t trying.”

    1. Yikes! Feel better soon!

The very first time I sparred I kicked someone wrong, tried to land a roundhouse kick (he had gear on, I didn’t) and at the last second I pulled my toes back instead of using the top of my foot like you’re supposed to. I jammed my toes, my whole foot turned black, and I was out of commission for almost two weeks! Technique is SO important!

I suppose you really only have to screw up once in order to learn not to make certain mistakes again.

    2. ever wonder why i never throw jumping doubles? same thing happened to me, except it was against jamaal. and he side kicked me in the stomach in mid-air. good quote though. that’s going in the profile.
