eating dinner with andrew from tkd last friday, he mentioned that he had given up meat for lent.
i have a few friends who are veggitarians all year round.
so i figured i would give it a try. wonder how long i’ll make it? no meat before easter!
now, evidently, the normal giving up of meat for lent comes in degrees. andrew will still eat seafood.
i’m giving it all up.
but i know some foods are cooked with a little flavoring… and i’m not going that psycho. i’ll still eat that. like french onion soup.
Tip: Eat fattening foods to feel full. Combine vegetable proteins. Ie: chickpeas with tofu. Eat frequently in smaller amounts. Pasta is good. Avoid simple sugars, they’ll make you more hungry and they’ll make you lethargic.

In the not-so-distant past, Catholics, of which I am one, were obliged to abstain from meat on all fridays…as a form of penance…which it is, because I love meat…but that penance has been relaxed to be simply fridays in lent… (and Ash Wednesday)…
i think the subject matter of the penance is somewhat arbitrary so that it does not include fish and such, but i think the idea is just that it is a penance of some sort…
