i met a princess today.
you read that correctly.
i met a princess today.
let it sink in.
i saw the king of spain when i was in palma de mallorca. on the far side of the airport. one side of the palma airport is civilian, the other is military. i was waiting for a plane to olbia, italy when the king and his entourage drove up and jetted away in his private lear. it has three engines.
but today i met her royal highness Aisha al Hashemi bint Hussein. her brother is king abdullah of jordan.
nice lady too.
her dad was king Hussein al Hashemi bin Talal, or just king hussein. he was a huge figure in middle east politics until he was cut down by cancer a couple of years ago (Radiya Allah Anhu). i’ll be participating in the relay for life here very soon. cancer needs to be dealt with. the sooner the better. see king husseins family tree all the way back past mohammed here
her mother was antoinette gardiner, a british citizen. aisha has a twin sister zein.
aisha is sitting just up and to the right of her father king hussein in this picture. she is wearing the lavendar.
she was pretty down to earth. first impression was good. i like her. she was personable. not pretentious at all. but i’m sure she could be if necesary. i’m sure she has had the lifetime to learn the skills necesary to exist in the world of statesmen.
aisha is also somewhat of a feminist. not the feminazi type we have here. she might be interested in more bathroom space at highway reststops for women, but she has bigger battles to fight. she is commander of the womens brigade in the jordanian army and is advocating things like health care for depndant wives.
really shows the huge contrast between the middle east and here. jordan is progressive too, in comparison to some of the other middle eastern states. i wish her all the luck in the world.
don’t know much else about her. she went to high school in mass. and college in britain. flawless english. married with two kids.
very nice lady.
speaks well of her father, who was a giant on the world stage (my official opinion), and makes me like jordan quite a bit more.

Ok. Something is missing here. How did you come to meet Princess Aisha, and what you were doing? Geez, it’s no wonder men are lousy at gossiping, unless it’s about a sexual exploit!!!!!

i would think that madame butterfly would understand why this post is devoid of that information.
I kind of thought there would be more info as well. You could say something like “I met her at a meeting” or “she was doing a tour of….” A few more details are needed.

T’would be nice to meet a Princess. Met Esai Morales once. Even saw the Ghostbuster Mobile one time while they were filming #2. That happens in NYC. Nothing so thrilling though as I’m sure you’ve experienced!

I think it’s cool you met a princess. And it’s good to know that there is a country in the middle east where women are more than property!
Met her father the late King, several times. Very commanding presence, even though he was quite short in stature, and an uncanny ability to apparently remember one’s face. I flew him a couple of times and visited Aqaba when my ‘boss’ visited with him on occasion in the ’80s.

I also have met Princess Aisha at Dana Hall in Wellesley, MA back in 1986 the year that she graduated. I agree that she is such a lovely young lady. I can remember eating dinner with her one night in the dining center and could not belive she was so down to earth. She had jeans on like everyone else and a very sweet and very intelligent. I also remember that she had mentioned back then that she was going into the Jordanian Army. It’s nice to know from reading her current bio that she accomplished what she set out to do. I worked in the Admissions Office of Dana Hall and in one of the dorms GreyLodge.
