I actually agree with the NRA for the most part. The Left ought to drop the issue, it’s a total loser. I am curious, though, about what limitations, if any, even they would put on the owning of weapons such as .50 caliber rifles, which can shoot a plane out of the sky. And hey, dammit, why not bazookas and RPG’s, etc.?!
Gus, the whole machine gun thing was taken care of after the rise of the gangsters during Prohibition. We fine-tuned those laws in 1969 by adopting the best of Hitler’s gun control laws. If you want to own those huge military spec weapons, fine. Register them, since that is what the law requires. Why you want to sit there and cast doubt on the thousands of collectors of such weaponry (and c’mon, some of those things are deadly beautiful), who are after all registered to do so and are subject to unannounced inspection of their personal property (ie, they have waived their Fourth Amendment rights in order to own the weapons)? It’s the criminals, the Crips and other organized crime, the petty hood who runs a stable of crack addict ho’s, that you generally have to worry about. And they don’t even have to worry about going through background checks. Remembers China’s NORINCO and the container of machine guns they were illegally importing into the country for the gangster clientelle? Our global friends and neighbors are more than willing to supply the needs of the criminal element.
