scifi has a series it likes to run called ghost hunters. they’re real life ghostbusters kind of. the main guy is a plumber normally. somehow he convinced scifi to pay him to play on the weekends.
they don’t exorcise or catch ghosts. they go to alleged hauntied dwellings and put a bunch of electronics out and try to get evidence of the paranormal.
if you’re a fan of supernatural movies, or just believe in ghosts, you should be watching this show.
last season, which i like to call season 1, they used video cameras with night vision, and some kind of meter that read electromagnetic stuff in the air. they’d then interview inhabitants to find out where the ‘activity’ occurred most frequently in the haunted house, set up cameras and wait til dark. then they’d tape everything and run around the house having the crap scared out of themselves.
they never really found anything. they were really good at debunking themselves. they’d pretty much call each other out and point out that, nobody touched your face. it was just cobwebs in the dark. they did have a couple of odd incidents. but nothing major that i saw.
this last sunday, scifi had a marathon of all of season 2 for hosthunters. this season, season 2, they added a couple of girls. had to sex up the show a bit. a bunch of middle aged guys running around in the dark just weren’t doing it. they also added a couple of new pieces of gear. one is FLIR, (forward looking infrared) and geiger counters. they’re reaching i know, the geiger counter i don’t think is much use, but the flir is awesome! worth it’s weight in gold for the show.
the last two episodes kind of weirded me out. next to last was in kentucky at some old sanitarium were more than 60,000 people died of tuberculosis. they had some really good footage on flir of things moving around in the house. and there was nothing there on regular cameras. cool and spooky to watch.
the last episode was in florida. they went to some old lighthouse that supposedly had lights go on and off at will, and the classic girl in white would appear at the top during storms. well, this place was still in operation, so they had alarms, motion detectors and stuff. and then the ghost hunters took their gear in, set up cameras and staked it out at nightfall. they saw some movement on the inside and started chasing something up the stairs. and you got to see it peer over the edge down at them from the top of the stairs.
and the motion detectors which were armed, never reacted to it. and they had it on film. it was cool.
give it a watch. and if you see an episode that is in kentucky, or a florida lighthouse, they must sees.
I’m so glad you posted this. My husband, kids, and I make wednesday nights one of our family nights to watch Ghost Hunters. We’ve been watching since early in the first season. We get everything ready for the next day (school, work, etc), eat an early dinner, set up our munchies, and watch from 8:00pm to 10:00pm (sometimes earlier if it’s on at 7).
Now, my husband is truly a skeptic. I, on the hand, do have a belief in this but I also need proof. There were some episodes that, even though they think they caught something, you could tell it wasn’t anything (see the first trip to Eastern State Penetentiary), but there are certain episodes which catch some things that should be explored further, i.e. the Florida Lighthouse & the Sanatorium. Other must sees include an Armory where the sound man was pushed down and a hotel where the infrared camera picked up a figure in a locker door (I can’t remember the locations though). Even my husband couldn’t refute these “catches” entirely.
This show is just fun to watch, whether you believe or not. The characters are fun, too. Also, if you’re on the internet, go to their website (the-atlantic-paranormal-society.com I think) and check out some of their finds.
PS. I already told my husband that when we drive down to Disney at the end of the year, we have to stop off at St. Augustine’s (which is on the way) and check out the lighthouse.
OMG, I LOVE this show, though I spend alot of time grumbling because their teasers are about stupid things that end up being nothing. This season is actually their THIRD season. The first season you have got to check out. There is one episode in a lighthouse I believe where the chair actually moves…sooo cool. The other one I that really stands out is the first state penitentiary they visit, the commenter above me said something about that one.. There’s been some really good episoded broken up with alot of boring ones, but that’s what makes it great, that’s what gives it it’s credibility…sigh, this is how I want to meet ghosts, via a tv screen damn it…lol
KaraMia,
You’re right on about the first lighthouse episode with the chair moving. It’s fun to watch. The problem with the first state penetentiary episode is that as you see the black shrouded figure move away from the camera, you can actually see the jeans underneath. I don’t think the ghosthunters set it up but, as what happenned on the Queen Mary last season, someone on the outside played some games with the crew. It’s very easy when the whole place goes dark and no one can actually see anything beyond their flashlights. The second time they went to the penetentiary they caught nada-not even sounds.
It would be so cool to go on a ghost hunt. I have always wanted to check out the Gettysburg battlefield after hours to see what my camera could pick up. It’s supposed to be one of the most haunted battlefields in the country. The Ghost Hunters gang have been to Pennsylvania a number of times. I wonder if they’d do something like that.
dont cross the streams. crossing the streams would be bad.
