Davidwell, they confirmed that the ‘mysterious’ white powder found at the senate is ricin. pretty nasty little powder. you grow some castor beans, get out the Anarchists Cookbook, and follow the recipe to make ricin. supposedly an amount the size of a pinhead can kill. Since it’s organic, it doesn’t leave a whole lot of trace in the body. kills in around 3 days and has no known antidote.
i don’t know which i would rather have. anthrax going through the mail, or ricin. which is the lesser of the two evils? i think they’re both on a par.
they really need to catch these guys. i want them dead. they should give them the choice of ricin or anthrax. i live just outside of dc and i’m really tired of all these wmd’s going through the mail.
Unfortunately, I think the poisons being sent are more than just a physical threat-I think they are also symbolic of the poison spreading through our American culture-a lack of pride, motivation and patriotism. Americans have not yet gotten tired of being threatened from within-it shows in how we treat each other; how equal opportunity is a weapon used to eliminate proper English words; how a large portion of the American public wants us to keep giving and giving and giving to other nations; how our schools are degenerating in quality (I know one middle school recently told its staff they could not enforce cursive writing because the elementary schools do not teach it); so why should we be surprised some freak is sending poison to the Senate? We are killing our culture day by day-this latest threat is just a more blatant picture of that self-destruction.

It is sad that we face these kind of threats from within our own borders. Comparing our country to those in Europe and our relatively low rate of domestic terrorism only helps to assuage a little of that sadness. After all, what makes this country so great to live in is the fact that we are so very different from Europe. When I heard about this latest attempt, I remarked to my wife that these people are despicable on so many levels its a little difficult to express my contempt. Not only are they cowardly, by sending anonymous letters designed to kill people, they aren’t even original! A thousand bucks says the guys sending these letters are different from the ones who sent the anthrax a couple of years ago. ‘OOH! White powder in an envelope addressed to a congressman! How unique’ I wonder where they got that idea. The toolbags.
