so i figured i had to do some things before i left here. how many more times will i be in hawaii after all.
so i bought a gliding thing up on the north shore. it’s a dillingham airfield.
it cost a small fortune! heh, well, really it only set me back 161 bucks. so i think it was a steal!
the top pic is the glider i got in. they had two here, the ‘blue’ glider, and the ‘red’ glider.
as you can see, i got my ride in the blue glider.
pay no attention to the white plane there. i guess the company has more than two pilots who do this. the ‘white’ glider never moved while i was there.
here’s the north shore. yeah. i’m up in the air at around 2500 feet here.
and turning around, this is what the other end of the coast looks like.
looking pretty much straight down. the pilot rolled a little for me.
yeah. i bought the ‘scenic’ package. the ‘aerobatic’ package was another 75 bucks or so. and let me tell ya. i was ok. but after half an hour up in this thing, with a LOT of chop, i was starting to get some motion sickness, so i’m glad i didn’t get and barrell or ‘s’ rolls. a loop d loop would have been fun though.
overall. it was a blast!

here is the takeoff
here is a quick clip of being up in the air, right after release from the tow plane
and lastly, here is the glider coming in for the landing. i tired to hold the camera still, but like i said, lots of chop!
oh, one last thing. i understand that this airfield is on available as a choice in the ms flight simulator. so if you can’t make it in person…
holy crap! that looks like a ton of fun!
i need your email addy so i can shoot you my resume. my email addy is terri.watson70@gmail.com
Looks like a blast Dave! Tell me how the craft kept from ripping the wing tips up after landing on a mono-wheel? I didn’t see any skids or protection for the wing. ~ Wade
So will you still be in Hawaii the first week of May? We’ll be on Oahu that whole week — if you’re around, let’s grab a drink!
