so last week the instructor for tkd went on spring break. he took his daughter with him, and she is the assistant instructor.

he left the class in the capable hands of the senior students.

so last week, all week, both the adult and the childrens classes were run by red/black belt students.

before he left, the instructor left instructions as to who was going to teach, and i was on the list. that’s just fine. i’m only visiting this school, they do different forms. it was ok for me to help, so long as one of the other lead students was here to run class.

so monday and tuesday squeeked by. myself and one other senior student were all that showed up.

and wednesday morning, that senior student went on vacation as well.

not to worry! the other students knew, and had not come on monday and tuesday because they knew they were teaching the rest of the week.

wrong.

wednesday, i showed up for class. an hour early, as i had been asked to help with the kids class. seems the kids are a little energetic and are uncontrolable.

so no one showed up on wednesday. i was there. parents started driving up and dropping off kids. and then they left.

so at 7:10, i faced reality. i had to teach. i would have just bagged, as i am only a visiting student. but was i supposed to just leave those little kids at the aerobics center for an hour unsupervised? and then hope their parents showed up on time to pick them up?

and then i wanted to take class at 8 as well!

so i figured the best i could do was to wait with them until their parents showed up. and hey. try to manage a group of little kids who are sitting still, waiting for their parents.

i ran them. undisciplined? unmanageable kids? i didn’t have any problems. i wanted to make a couple do some righteous pushups, but let them slide as it was a one time deal.

then i had to teach the adult class as well. not cool.

so, to keep this from happening again, i just bagged thursday and friday altogether. i just avoided class.

so today i go back. and the regular instructor shows up. i tell him what happened and that i had to teach. even though i didn’t want to, and went out of my way to avoid it, and avoided class to keep it from happening again.

and he’s pissed at me.

so i won’t be back there. i have three weeks left in cuba. i can manage to jog for three weeks. i’ll do my own forms. and resume tks when i get back to san antonio
