Wreck

anyone tired of poeple on cell phones while driving?

not me. i didn’t have a wreck.

a friend of mine who teaches taekwondo was driving to work. for those of you who know the greater san antonio area, he was going north on 1604 near hausman. doing 65 in his jeep, with the top off, and no seatbelt.

say what you want about the seatbelt. if the girl had not been doing 90 mph up the onramp, it would never have made a difference.

she plowed right into his rear end. no fag jokes here. her f150 truck took it ok and has some bumper damage.

joel got ejected from his jeep at 65. his jeep is probably totaled. i don’t know if it rolled or what, somehow i just wasn’t interested in the status of the jeep. this is the first i’ve even thought about it.

they shut down the highway for around 25 minutes while the helicopter took him to the hospital.

say hello to martial arts. doctors were reportedly amazed. he should be dead. anyone not wearing body armor who does a face plant on pavement at more than 65 mph (he did get hit by someone doing 90) usually doesn’t live.

but docs said they’d seen stuff like this before. people who do martial arts, or are just really athletic have the reflexes in their system to tuck, and minimize an impact without conscious thought. he was around 100 yards from where his jeep finally came to a stop.

joel has a broken elbow, LOTS of road rash, and a good gouge on his back. he tried to get up and walk away before the paramedics pushed him onto the gurney so he could be flown to the hospital.
he spent a little time in the icu and is now at home.

my animosity to cell phone driving has reached a new high.

    1. I do S-o-o-o-o- agree!!

I live literally right next to a Freeway.

Last night I heard too many Fire Engines to just be a run-of-the-mill accident. I got out of the pool,(the wall around the pool is a good jump-off point to the active Freeway!) From a Lounge Chair I saw a totally destroyed S.U.V. and three other scattered cars.

I went over to the bridge overpass directly across, and joined other onlookers who saw the whole thing. Four Emergency Vans, four Fire Engines, 8 CHP cars, and about 3 Mega Tow trucks were already on the scene. From what I understand, it was a ‘cell phone’ accident. Three people were taken away on gurneys to the Emergency Vehicles.

I cannot understand how anyone could survive the worst of the three damaged cars…..the S.U.V I saw. It was so demolished , it looked like a smashed soda can with white side Air Bags hanging out like flags. It took the Tow Truck driver at least 30 minutes to try to get that thing on the ramp.

    2. I like calling/texting people on my cell phone while I’m driving. Does it make a difference that I always wear my seatbelt? 🙂

Congrats to your friend for being in such good shape that he came out of that wreck with minor injuries!!!! I’ve heard of stories like that before. It’s amazing what the body can endure when you take care of it.
