for those of you who have not heard yet, yeah, my job is sending me on a little trip for 3 months.
i’ll be back to san antonio in may.
i have a friend watching my house, so for those of you that have you eye on my fridge, go buy one! my house is not vacant.
i haven’t seen the mountain lion yet. hope i don’t either.
To Gitmo, for real?! Allah help them…
Boy-oh-boy, you just can’t help but be a Yankee imperialist pawn in the persecution of those helpless Islamic Freedom Fighters, who have been denied their fundamental Constitutional protections under the law! (Since Gus won’t spout it in so many words, just the ‘Allah help them’ bit)
Scuba’s great at Gitmo, Mlah! And the Marines just love sparring, I’m sure there’s a couple of TKD afficianados there. Just watch that knee.
Hey, send me an email with the info…man, I can’t believe I gotta come here to find out!!!
True, there is that, Yup. Wasn’t the Supreme Court deciding something about them soon? Or did they already? And I’m amazed and impressed that Mlah, who is not the sharpest knife in the block, is being entrusted with some amount of responsibility there. Or maybe I’m appalled and dismayed by that, I dunno. I’m surprised, in any case, that we’re still getting any useful information from these dudes we teleported halfway around the world 3 1/2 years ago, but what do I know about it? Nuthin. Ooh, the Taleban! Boo!
Beyond all that, I’m sure it will be incredibly fascinating– something to tell your grandkids about, if you ever do marry and breed (cue the Village People’s “In the Navy” here).
Hey, I collect magnets.
holy crap, jason makes an unexpected appearance!
“Teleported,” Gus? I don’t think even the super-secret NSA has that kind of equipment.
Have you ever read Philip K. Dick, or at least seen the movie Minority Report? That story really gets you pondering the validity of punishing a person for crimes they have not yet but may in the future commit. Flash to reality and see that is exactly what the US Government is faced with regarding these suspected terrorists, some of whom were captured on foreign soil and are being held in Cuba. Let them go, and thousands could die. Hold them for a few year, and their at-large cohorts will (a) move on to other plans and (b) think they have been coopted once we do finally release them.
You going to make the call, Gussy boy? You willing to bear the responsibility for those potential deaths? Will you personally visit their bereaved and tell them that you did hte right thing? Would you still do so, had these been Mohammed Atta and company (who, oddly, lived for a time near where Mlah and I once did, were seen shopping at the same mall we hung out in, while they were making plans to kill thousands) and they were being released in, say, May 2001 because they hadn’t broken any laws except the inconsequential ones like immigration? Would you still stand so tall and yell that they are no threat 6 months later?
Oh, and one of the guys we released from Guantanamo Bay because so many people like you were screaming for his release, well, he went back to Pakistan, where he started having his terrorist followers take foreigners as hostages to punish Musharref for cooperating with us.
