well, if y’all read a few enties down on my page, you’ll see that my mom recently had a quadruple bypass. i originally reported it as triple, but i was wrong. Dr. Pepper (no shit), my mom’s surgeon did 4.
my mom is doing well. i’ll give the customary sunday night call again in a little while and catch up on my nieces, nephew and siblings.
oh, my mom is again eating mexican food. she had mexican dinner from ‘tres hermanos’, the best mexican restaurant in whitney, texas and got indigestion. she just couldn’t shake the indigestion. stayed with her for more than a week! finally my dad put her in the car and took her to the hospital. she had had at least three really minor heart attacks in the preceeding week to 10 days.
needless to say. she was a little put off of mexican food, although it wasn’t actually mexican food that did it to her.
my sisters were down at my parents house and demanded tacos. we usually fight over the tomatos. and these are the same tacos we regual;rly have for christmas, so, you know they’re good.
my mom couldn’t resist for long, broke down, and is eating tacos once again.
now for the real reason of this post.
i have family history of heart problems.
guess what the single largest contributor to heart problems is? family history.
my doctor knew i had history on my dad’s side. i have some other indicators as well, like high triglycerides, hypertension, low cholesterol.
yeah, you read that correctly. there are two cholesterols. the high number is ‘bad’. the low number is ‘good’. my ‘bad’ cholesterol is at a number that is considered normal. my ‘good’ cholesterol is way low.
so my doc was looking at ‘agressively’ preventing future heart disease for me.
now agressively means that she was planning on starting me on lipitor now, before i actually have atherosclerosis, (clogged veins and arteries) and possibly having me checked out by a cardiologist.
when i saw her this last tuesday, and told her that my mom has now had a bypass, it made her decision for her.
she started me on lipitor. and took an electrocardiogram.
she had also just had some blood taken and analyzed.
she didn’t like the results. there was some kind of elevated enzyme in my blood she didn’t like. i got the ‘it could be nothing’ speech, but she wasn’t smiling.
and then she read the ecg. and she didn’t like that. something was out of the norm.
that was tuesday. thursday i saw the cardiologist. and i was pretty scared. i was looking at the potential of lifelong heart problems, and that’s not fun.
but, after two days of constant worrying, the doc took an ultrasound of my heart and said it looked good. but the big test was on friday.
they stuffed me full of some radioactive isotope, and ran me on a treadmill. then they can xray you and watch the radioactive crap in your blood go through your heart. this way they can see if you are clogged or not.
he said i’m normal.
and i went and had some fajitas. then we took jamaal to a stripper bar. it appears my heart can take it.
See??? That proves it!!!! Refried beans, tequila, and women…good for the heart!!!!
I’m glad to hear you are fine. Keep it pumpin’!!!
